At Innovative Therapeutic Services, we are dedicated to supporting mental health and wellness year-round. While Mental Health Awareness Month is officially observed in May, March presents several key opportunities to reflect on our emotional well-being, build healthier habits, and engage in conversations about mental health.
From Self-Injury Awareness Day (March 1) to National Nutrition Month, March is filled with moments to raise awareness about self-care, resilience, and the connection between mental and physical health.

March Mental Health Observances: Why They Matter
🧡 Self-Injury Awareness Day (March 1)
This important day sheds light on self-harm, a topic often misunderstood. Many individuals use self-injury as a coping mechanism for overwhelming emotions, and raising awareness can help reduce stigma and encourage support. If you or someone you love is struggling, know that help is available, and you are not alone.
🍏 National Nutrition Month
What we eat affects more than just our bodies—it directly impacts our mood, energy levels, and mental clarity. Balanced nutrition can help regulate emotions, support brain function, and improve overall well-being. Small changes, like staying hydrated, incorporating more whole foods, and avoiding excessive sugar and caffeine, can boost both physical and mental health.
🎨 The Power of Creativity & Self-Care
This month, we recently hosted a Virtual Art Event for our staff, led by the talented therapists at The Art Room CCH. This session allowed our team to reconnect, express themselves creatively, and focus on their emotional well-being. Activities like painting, journaling, and mindfulness exercises help reduce stress and provide a healthy outlet for emotions.
"Just wanted to reach out and say thank you for the art event. It was genuinely an amazing experience. I haven’t painted like that since high school, so it took me back." – Staff Member
We believe that self-care isn't selfish—it's essential. Whether it’s through art, meditation, therapy, or simply taking time for yourself, finding ways to nurture your mental health is an act of self-love.
How You Can Prioritize Your Mental Health This March
Here are a few ways you can take care of your well-being this month: ✔ Practice mindfulness – Take time each day to breathe, reflect, and be present.✔ Stay connected – Reach out to loved ones and nurture meaningful relationships.✔ Engage in creative outlets – Try painting, writing, or another artistic activity.✔ Seek professional support – Therapy can provide tools and strategies to help you navigate life's challenges.✔ Move your body – Exercise releases endorphins that boost your mood.
